As a general guide:

• Skin tags, Milia, Cherry Angiomas (cherry spots), Seborrhoeic Keratoses and Xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits) usually require just one session.

• Moles and warts may need two or more sessions, as they often have root systems beneath the skin. Electrocautery can significantly reduce them, but it may not eliminate 100% of the root. Only surgical excision can guarantee full removal.

• Syringomas and Sebaceous Hyperplasia can sometimes be treated in one session, but in most cases, multiple sessions are needed for best results.

During your consultation or treatment, we’ll assess your skin and give you an idea of what to expect. While we can’t guarantee how many sessions you’ll need, we’ll guide you through the process with care and honesty.

Yes — electrocautery is a safe, non-surgical method for removing common skin lesions such as skin tags, sebaceous hyperplasia, milia, cherry angiomas (cherry spots), xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits), moles, warts, and syringomas (sweat duct bumps).

Lesion removal should always be performed by a trained professional with infection control certification, appropriate insurance, and in a licensed premises for skin penetration procedures.

At Daisy Skin, we use only FDA and TGA approved electrocautery devices and strictly follow hygiene protocols to ensure client safety.

To achieve the safest and most effective results, it’s essential that clients are fully informed and closely follow the PreCare and AfterCare instructions provided. These are clearly outlined on this webpage, along with a candidate checklist, treatment info, and healing expectations.

While we’ll prepare and support you every step of the way, half of the success lies in what you do before and after the treatment. It’s the client’s responsibility to care for themselves and the treated area to ensure optimal healing and results.

To keep you comfortable, numbing cream (topical anaesthetic) is essential. At Daisy Skin, we do not perform any lesion removals without the area being pre-numbed.

Self-numbing vs in-clinic numbing:

• For lesions like skin tags or moles, apply numbing cream yourself 30–45 minutes before your appointment. Cover the area with a small piece of cling wrap and arrive with it still in place. For example: cut a piece of cling wrap 4cm x 4cm.

• For delicate or complex areas (such as eyelids), numbing will be applied in-clinic. Please allow extra time for this during your appointment.

Which numbing cream should I use?

We recommend purchasing numbing cream from an online compounding pharmacy, as these usually contain 9–10% strength — ideal for lesion removal procedures.

⚠️ Over-the-counter creams (generally around 5% strength and available at most pharmacies) offer some relief, but they are often not strong enough for super comfortable lesion removal.

Before purchasing, please check with us to confirm how much you will need — this can vary from 1–10ml depending on the number and size of lesions being treated.

If you have melanin-rich skin or are prone to hyperpigmentation, it’s important to prepare your skin in advance to reduce the risk of dark marks post-treatment.

We recommend:

• Using a Vitamin C serum (20% strength) for 1–2 weeks prior to treatment. This helps regulate melanocyte activity and may reduce the skin's tendency to overproduce pigment in response to the procedure.

• Applying a broad-spectrum SPF daily, and reapplying if you're outdoors.

This extra care can help prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation and support a clearer, more even result.

If you need suggestions for a Vitamin C serum or sunscreen, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Healing time can vary depending on the type of lesion, the area treated, and your individual skin response — but here’s a general guide:

Once the lesion crust falls off, new pink skin will be revealed. If the scab has not come off prematurely, the skin typically repigments fully within 8–12 weeks.

Immediately following the procedure, you can usually return to light duties for the rest of the day. However, it’s important to follow the Aftercare instructions closely to support healing and achieve the best results. (You’ll find the full Aftercare guide in the FAQ section.)

If your lower face has been treated, you may wear a face mask — just be sure to change it every 2 hours. For other body areas, wear loose, breathable clothing (such as cotton), or allow the area to remain uncovered where possible to encourage airflow while it heals. For areas of the body subject to friction, a fresh band-aid can be applied daily.

Makeup can be worn once the crust or scab has fallen off naturally, leaving the new skin smooth and intact. Please refer to the previous FAQ for healing timeframes by lesion type.

Avoid applying makeup to open or scabbing skin, as this may cause irritation or increase the risk of infection.

Electrocautery is not suitable for everyone. Please read the following carefully:

• 🔄 Experiencing poor circulation, impaired lymphatic drainage, or phlebitis/thrombosis

🌙 Night Before / Morning Of

• 🚿 Wash your hair (as long showers will need to be avoided during healing)

📅 Day of Appointment

• 🧔 Men: shave the area to be treated

• 🚭 Strictly no smoking or vaping

• 🍳 Eat a meal containing healthy fats (helps with pain tolerance)

• 💄 Remove all makeup from the treatment area

• 👁 Remove contact lenses if eyes are being treated

• 🧘‍♀️ Arrive with a rested heart rate

• 🚽 Empty your bladder before treatment

• 💊 Optional: consider taking an antihistamine 1 hour before

• 🧴 Apply a 1–3mm thick layer of numbing cream to the area 30–45 minutes prior, cover with cling wrap, and arrive with it still in place

💁‍♀️ Additional Notes:

• Kindly be mindful of your oral and body hygiene — our staff work in close proximity to you for an extended period.

• Please do not wear perfume, as strong scents may trigger headaches in staff or clients.

If you’ve ever had a cold sore or fever blister, the treatment may reactivate the Herpes Simplex Virus. 📩 Please contact us beforehand for preventative instructions (e.g. obtaining antiviral medication from your GP).

Proper aftercare is essential to avoid complications and get the best possible results. Here's everything you need to know:

✅ DO:

✔️ Keep the treated area clean and dry ✔️ Sleep on fresh pillowslips and/or sheets ✔️ Apply Medipulv antiseptic powder 3× daily for the first 2 days ✔️ For eye treatments:

• Sleep elevated the first night

• Apply ice compresses (10 minutes every hour)

✔️ Consider taking antihistamines for 2–3 days post-treatment to reduce swelling, itching and inflammation

✔️ From Day 3 onward: Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser (morning and night) ✔️ Cover up! Wear a wide-brim hat outdoors

🚫 AVOID:

❌ Picking / pulling / scratching → May lead to scarring or fever blisters

❌ Long showers / steam / saunas / pools / spas / sweating → Moisture can cause premature scab loss, leading to scarring

❌ Sun exposure → Can trigger hyperpigmentation on freshly treated skin

❌ Cleansers, soaps, or makeup on the treated area → May cause irritation, infection, or prolonged healing

❌ Touching the area with unclean hands → Increases the risk of infection or cold sore outbreaks

• Day 0: Redness, swelling, and heat — feels like a mild sunburn

• Days 1–2: Swelling and tenderness, especially around the eyes

• Days 3–4: Treated area may darken, feel tight, and itchy

• Days 4–10: Scabs will fall off naturally — keep the skin protected and gently cared for
