The number of treatments varies depending on the type of lesion and your individual skin response.

As a general guide:

• Skin tags, sebaceous hyperplasia, milia, cherry angiomas (cherry spots), and xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits) often require just one session.

• Moles and warts may need two or more sessions, as they often have root systems beneath the skin. Electrocautery can significantly reduce or remove them, but it may not eliminate 100% of the root. Only surgical excision can guarantee full removal.

• Syringomas can sometimes be treated in one session, but in most cases, multiple sessions are needed for best results.

During your consultation or treatment, we’ll assess your skin and give you an idea of what to expect. While we can’t guarantee how many sessions you’ll need, we’ll guide you through the process with care and honesty.

Yes — electrocautery is a safe, non-surgical method for removing common skin lesions such as skin tags, sebaceous hyperplasia, milia, cherry angiomas (cherry spots), xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits), moles, warts, and syringomas (sweat duct bumps).

Lesion removal should always be performed by a trained professional with infection control certification, appropriate insurance, and in a licensed premises for skin penetration procedures.

At Daisy Skin, we use only FDA and TGA approved electrocautery devices and strictly follow hygiene protocols to ensure client safety.

To achieve the safest and most effective results, it’s essential that clients are fully informed and closely follow the PreCare and AfterCare instructions provided. These are clearly outlined on this webpage, along with a candidate checklist, treatment info, and healing expectations.

While we’ll prepare and support you every step of the way, half of the success lies in what you do before and after the treatment. It’s the client’s responsibility to care for themselves and the treated area to ensure optimal healing and results.

To keep you comfortable, numbing cream (topical anaesthetic) is essential. At Daisy Skin, we do not perform any lesion removals without the area being pre-numbed.

Self-numbing vs in-clinic numbing:

• For areas like skin tags or moles, you can apply numbing cream yourself 30–45 minutes before your appointment. Cover the area with cling wrap and arrive with it still in place.

• For delicate or complex areas (such as eyelids), numbing will be applied in-clinic. Please allow extra time for this during your appointment.

Which numbing cream should I use?

We recommend purchasing numbing cream from a compounding pharmacy, as these usually contain 9–10% strength — ideal for lesion removal.

⚠️ Avoid over-the-counter creams (such as 5% strength), as they’re not strong enough to provide adequate comfort.

Before buying, check with us to confirm the amount needed — this can range from 1ml to 10ml, depending on the treatment area.

If you have melanin-rich skin or are prone to hyperpigmentation, it’s important to prepare your skin in advance to reduce the risk of dark marks post-treatment.

We recommend:

• Using a Vitamin C serum (10–20%) for 1–2 weeks prior to treatment. This helps regulate melanocyte activity and may reduce the skin's tendency to overproduce pigment in response to the procedure.

• Applying a broad-spectrum SPF daily, and reapplying if you're outdoors.

This extra care can help prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation and support a clearer, more even result.

If you need suggestions for a Vitamin C serum or sunscreen, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Electrocautery is not suitable for everyone. Please read the following carefully:

🚫 You are NOT suitable for treatment if you are:

• 🤰 Pregnant or breastfeeding

• 🧴 Experiencing very sensitive skin or have undiagnosed allergies

• 🩹 Prone to picking/scratching at the skin

• 🍷 Dealing with alcohol or drug abuse

• 💉 Living with immunosuppressive diseases (e.g. AIDS, HIV)

• 💊 On Accutane / Isotretinoin or prescribed acne medication (within the last 12 months)

• 🧬 Diagnosed with liver disease or on liver-impacting medication

• ❤️ Living with heart disease or a pacemaker

• 🩸 Diagnosed with a healing disorder or keloid scarring

• 🔄 Experiencing poor circulation, impaired lymphatic drainage, or phlebitis/thrombosis

• ⚡️ Prone to seizures or blackouts

• 🧲 Have metal implants/plates/pins in the treatment area

• ⚠️ On blood-thinning medication or have a history of heavy bleeding

• 🔺 Diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, or anxiety that is not well-managed

• 🔴 Experiencing a compromised skin barrier (cuts, bruises, abrasions, infections, ulcers, etc.)

🕒 You are NOT suitable if you have/had the following recently:

• 🌞 A tan (avoid 4 weeks before and 12 weeks after treatment)

• 🦷 Major dental work (avoid 2 weeks before/after)

• 💉 Vaccinations (avoid 2 weeks before/after)

• 🧴 Skincare with acids (e.g. lactic, glycolic, salicylic, citric, mandelic) — discontinue 2 days before

• ✨ Skincare that increases photosensitivity (e.g. Retinol, Retinoids, Tretinoin, Bakuchiol) — discontinue 2 days before

• 💉 Invasive procedures (Botox, filler, PRP, dissolver, threads, etc.) — avoid 4 weeks before

• 🧪 Semi-invasive treatments (chemical peels, laser, skin needling, etc.) — avoid 4 weeks before

• 💊 Antibiotics — avoid 1 month before

• 💉 Steroid injections — avoid 1 month before

• 💊 Oral steroids — avoid 6 weeks before

• 🎗 Cancer treatments — avoid 6 months before

⚠️ You may proceed at your own risk if you have/are:

• 🧑🏾‍🦱 Fitzpatrick Skin Type 4–6 (due to higher risk of hyper/hypopigmentation)

• 🦠 Autoimmune conditions, blood disorders, or lymphatic drainage issues

• 😬 History of fever blisters or cold sores (you must obtain an antiviral script from your GP)

• 🧬 Current or past skin cancer or pre-cancerous lesions (must be assessed by your doctor)

• 💉 Taking anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication

🩺 Important Medical Clearance Notes:

You must have your lesion cleared by your GP before treatment if it has any of the following features:

• Changed in size, colour, shape, or texture

• Has irregular or uneven borders

• Is not symmetrical

🔍 Additional note: GP clearance may still be required even if the lesion appears benign, especially in the case of moles

👶 Clients Under 18:

Must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with photo ID.

Following these PreCare steps will help ensure a safe, smooth treatment and minimise the risk of complications such as bleeding, delayed healing, or hyper-pigmentation.

🗓 4 Weeks Prior to Treatment

• 🚫 No cosmetic procedures or treatments on the area to be treated

• 🌞 No tanning or sunburns to the area

🗓 2 Weeks Prior

• 🌿 If prone to hyperpigmentation: Start applying a Tyrosinase Inhibitor serum (such as a clinically formulated Vitamin C 10–20%) each morning, underneath broad-spectrum sunscreen

🧴 7 Days Leading Up to Your Appointment

• Keep the treatment area well moisturised

⏳ 2 Days Prior

• ❌ No oral anti-inflammatories (Ibuprofen, Nurofen, Aspirin, Disprin, Voltaren, Diclofenac)

• ❌ No topical anti-inflammatory creams/gels (anywhere on the body)

• ⚠️ Avoid blood-thinning herbs and spices such as: Turmeric, ginger, garlic, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, ginkgo biloba

• ⚠️ Limit overly salty foods

• 👁 If treating the eye area, remove false lashes safely

• 🚭 No opioids or marijuana

• 🧴 Stop applying skincare products that accelerate cell turnover (Retinol, Retinoids, Retinal, Tretinoin, Bakuchiol)

• 🧪 Stop applying acid-based exfoliants (Lactic, Glycolic, Salicylic, Citric, Mandelic)

⏰ 24 Hours Prior

• ❌ No alcohol

• 💧 Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water

• ⚡️ Consider electrolytes if you’re feeling dehydrated

🌙 Night Before / Morning Of

• 🚿 Wash your hair (as long showers will need to be avoided during healing)

📅 Day of Appointment

• 🧔 Men: shave the area to be treated

• 🚭 Strictly no smoking or vaping

• 🍳 Eat a meal containing healthy fats (helps with pain tolerance)

• 💄 Remove all makeup from the treatment area

• 👁 Remove contact lenses if eyes are being treated

• 🧘‍♀️ Arrive with a rested heart rate

• 🚽 Empty your bladder before treatment

• 💊 Optional: consider taking an antihistamine 1 hour before

• 🧴 Apply a 1–3mm thick layer of numbing cream to the area 30–45 minutes prior, cover with cling wrap, and arrive with it still in place

💁‍♀️ Additional Notes:

• Kindly be mindful of your oral and body hygiene — our staff work in close proximity to you for an extended period.

• Please do not wear perfume, as strong scents may trigger headaches in staff or clients.

💋 If Treating the Lip Area:

If you’ve ever had a cold sore or fever blister, the treatment may reactivate the Herpes Simplex Virus. 📩 Please contact us beforehand for preventative instructions (e.g. obtaining antiviral medication from your GP).

Proper aftercare is essential to avoid complications and get the best possible results. Here's everything you need to know:

✅ DO:

✔️ Keep the treated area clean and dry ✔️ Sleep on fresh pillowslips and/or sheets ✔️ Apply Medipulv antiseptic powder 3× daily for the first 2 days ✔️ For eye treatments:

• Sleep elevated the first night

• Apply ice compresses (10 minutes every hour)

✔️ Consider taking antihistamines for 2–3 days post-treatment to reduce swelling, itching and inflammation

✔️ From Day 3 onward: Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser (morning and night) ✔️ Cover up! Wear a wide-brim hat outdoors

🚫 AVOID:

❌ Picking / pulling / scratching → May lead to scarring or fever blisters

❌ Long showers / steam / saunas / pools / spas / sweating → Moisture can cause premature scab loss, leading to scarring

❌ Sun exposure → Can trigger hyperpigmentation on freshly treated skin

❌ Cleansers, soaps, or makeup on the treated area → May cause irritation, infection, or prolonged healing

❌ Touching the area with unclean hands → Increases the risk of infection or cold sore outbreaks

🩹 Typical Healing Timeline:

• Day 0: Redness, swelling, and heat — feels like a mild sunburn

• Days 1–2: Swelling and tenderness, especially around the eyes

• Days 3–4: Treated area may darken, feel tight, and itchy

• Days 4–10: Scabs will fall off naturally — keep the skin protected and gently cared for

🧴 AfterCare Products:

⚠️ Itchy, Tingly, or Stingy by Day 2–3?

A fever blister or cold sore may be developing.

• Seek antiviral medication ASAP from your GP, pharmacy, or an online provider.

🌞 Once the Scab Has Fallen Off:

• Expect a pink ‘glow’ — this is fresh, new skin

• Makeup can be worn once the skin is fully intact

• If you’re prone to pigmentation:

  • Apply a Vitamin C serum (10–20%) daily in the morning

  • Always follow with broad-spectrum SPF

• The area may feel sensitive or tender for 2–3 weeks

• Avoid harsh soaps or exfoliants — use a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser

• Keep the skin well-hydrated with your fragrance-free moisturiser

🧖‍♀️ Skincare & Treatments (After Scabs Have Fallen Off):

• Weeks 1–8: Diligently protect the area from the sun and wear SPF daily

• Weeks 3–4: Reintroduce 'active' skincare products if skin sensitivity allows

• For 8 weeks: No clinical treatments on the treated area

Immediately following the procedure, you can usually return to light duties for the rest of the day, but it’s important to follow the Aftercare instructions closely to support healing and achieve the best results. (You’ll find the full Aftercare guide further down in this FAQ section.)

If your lower face has been treated, you may wear a face mask — just be sure to change it every 2 hours.

For other body areas, wear loose, breathable clothing (like cotton), or allow the area to remain uncovered where possible to encourage airflow while it heals.

💄 Makeup and Daily Life

• You can generally resume light activities immediately after treatment.

• Makeup can be worn once the surface of the skin has fully healed (usually after 5–7 days for most facial areas).

• Avoid applying makeup to open or scabbing skin to prevent irritation or infection.
